The University of Kinshasa is the oldest and most prestigious medical school in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It is accredited by the Congolese Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and is a member of the Association of African Universities. The School of Medicine offers a 7-year Doctor of Medicine (MD) program. The program is divided into two phases: the pre-clinical phase and the clinical phase. The pre-clinical phase lasts four years and covers the basic medical sciences, such as anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, and pharmacology.
The clinical phase lasts three years and covers clinical subjects such as medicine, surgery, paediatrics, obstetrics, and gynaecology. The University of Kinshasa has a total of 2,000 students.
