The School of Medicine at UON was founded in 1998 as the Faculty of Medicine of the University Center of Cabinda (CUC), an extension of the Agostinho Neto University (UAN). In 2009, it was granted its own autonomy and renamed the School of Medicine of UON. A 6-year undergraduate programme leading to the Doctor of Medicine degree is available from the School of Medicine. The Angolan Ministry of Higher Education has approved the programme.
The School of Medicine has a strong research program. A 2021 study by the Angolan Association of Medical Doctors found that 93% of graduates from the School of Medicine at UON were employed within 6 months of graduation.
