The oldest and biggest medical school in Gabon is the School of Medicine at Omar Bongo University. It is situated in Libreville, the nation’s capital, and was established in 1970. The institution provides a 6-year MD programme that results in the award of the MD degree. The Association of Medical Schools in Africa (AMSA) has approved the curriculum. There are more than 100 professors and lecturers on the faculty at the School of Medicine.
The Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Libreville (CHUL), a state-of-the-art teaching hospital, is another resource available to the school where students can obtain practical experience. Various scholarships and financial aid programs help students pay for their education.
