In 2009, Norbert Zongo University opened its School of medicine. Approximately 100 kilometers from the capital, Ouagadougou, the school is located in Koudougou. A 6-year Doctor of Medicine (MD) program is available at the institution. The program is pre-clinical for the first two years and clinical for the latter four. Additionally, the university provides a Master of Public Health (MPH) program.
The 2023–2024 academic year is now accepting applications at the UNZ School of Medicine. Five hundred people are enrolled in the school in total. The World Bank has given the institution a grant to help with its research program. The Association of Medical Schools in Africa (AMSA) has accredited the UNZ School of Medicine.
