The School of Medicine Department was founded as the Faculty of Medicine in 1964. It was one of the first faculties established at the University of Burundi. The faculty was renamed the School of Medicine in 2006. The school has undergone several changes over the years but has always maintained its commitment to providing high-quality medical education. In 2017, the World Federation of Medical Education (WFME) awarded the school full accreditation.
This significant achievement recognizes the school’s commitment to quality education and training. The school is currently undergoing a period of expansion and modernization. University is also working to increase its international partnerships.
